A Scott-T transformer converts a three-phase supply into two single-phase outputs with a 90-degree phase displacement. It is used where the process requires two suitable single-phase loads rather than a conventional three-phase load. The source manual describes applications including glass melting and industrial furnaces. Input current balance depends on the relationship between the two loads. When their characteristics, power factors and loading are similar, the three-phase input can remain substantially balanced. Unequal loading changes that condition, so balance should not be promised for arbitrary operating conditions. Selection requires the power and electrical characteristics of each output circuit, together with the input voltage and frequency. Mechanical construction is selected according to the rating and process requirements. Provide both load schedules and the expected operating sequence when requesting a proposal. The final design should state the output ratings, connection arrangement and any required regulation. The Scott connection itself should not be confused with a complete independent voltage-control system.
